Short answer

Fake Valentino bag hardware fails on four points: weight, plating color, fastener type, and engraving depth. Real Rockstud studs sit on a brass base. A medium Rockstud tote with 60 studs adds real mass. Copies use zinc alloy, weigh less, and show copper or gray metal under the plating in a few weeks. Engraving on a copy is shallow and the font is off. Studs on a fake hold with glue or a Phillips screw. Real studs hold with a flat-head screw or a factory rivet.

Weight and feel

Pick up the bag. Real hardware is dense. Compare a copy of the same style: it runs 20 to 40 percent lighter on a kitchen scale. Press a thumbnail into one stud. Zinc alloy dents. Brass does not.

Plating color

Valentino uses a pale gold finish called platino on most Rockstud bags, plus a rose tone in some seasons. The pale gold reads as gray-gold. It does not read yellow. Fakes lean yellow, orange, or copper-pink.

Check the bag near a window. Real plating holds one tone across every stud. On a copy, tone shifts from piece to piece because the parts came from different plating runs.

Fasteners

Turn the bag over and look at the lining behind a stud. Many real styles show a flat-head screw or a flush rivet. Phillips heads, hex socket screws, and glue point to a copy. Glue shows as a ring of yellow or white adhesive around the stud base.

Engraving

Real hardware carries "Valentino Garavani" on zipper pulls, the inner plate, and some clasps. Letters are cut deep. Stroke width stays the same on every letter. Fakes show shallow laser marks, uneven spacing, and a wrong letterform. Check the G in Garavani. Real ones have a clean spur. Copies fill the spur in or cut it too thick.

Stud shape

Real pyramid studs have sharp corners and flat faces. Base sizes run from about 4 mm to 14 mm by style. Copies round the corners and flatten the tips. Look down a row. Real studs line up. Copies drift.

Zippers

Valentino uses metal zippers on Rockstud bags. Teeth are a brass alloy. The slider moves with a firm, even pull. Copies use plastic teeth or a nylon coil painted to look like metal. Paint flakes off the teeth.

The leather zipper tab on a real bag is cut clean at the edges with straight stitching. On a copy the tab is thinner leather with uneven stitches.

Magnet closures

Real flaps close with a firm snap and hold. Copies use weak magnets. Test with a paper clip. A real magnet lifts it from 1 cm to 2 cm. A weak magnet does not.

What photos cannot show

Weight, magnet strength, and fastener type need the bag in hand. Ask the seller for a 3x close-up of a stud base, the zipper pull, and the inner plate. Ask for a scale reading of the bag. A refusal answers the question.
